2021-2022 AKII-GIKINOO'AMAADING IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION PLAN
Akii-gikinoo’amaading is opening the new year with in-person instruction. In order to ensure student and staff training as well as mitigate the spread of COVID -19, we have created the following plan to guide us through the school year while amidst a national pandemic.
Delivery of Instruction
Akii-gikinoo’amaading will offer in-person learning 4 days a week and 1 day of virtual learning. Virtual learning day will be used for classroom sanitation, and staff planning.
School Start Time
The school will be open to students by 7:45am each morning. Students whom ride the bus will be dropped off in front of the school each morning. If children are driven by parents they are expected to drop students of in front of the building as well. Students not taking the bus should be at school no later than 8:15am each morning.
At Akii-gikinoo’amaading, all staff, and students are required to wear a cloth face covering while attending school or a school function in any school building, facility, or other school-controlled area, and when riding on the busses. All face coverings must cover the nose and mouth. Face coverings must be worn regardless of the ability to maintain six feet of distancing and vaccination status. Face coverings shall be worn at all times except for the following limited exceptions:
- When eating or drinking;
- Students or staff may be exempted from wearing masks and face coverings due to documented medical condition;
- Students may be exempted from wearing masks and face coverings due to special behavioral or individualized needs as determined through the IEP process
- All other rules of the school related to student dress (e.g., prohibitions against clothing or jewelry containing messages related to sexual references, profanity, drugs, etc.) apply equally to face coverings. Students and staff members who refuse to wear face coverings without proper documentation shall be subject to discipline consistent with other school attire rules violations.
Based on Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, cloth face coverings are an important mitigation strategy to help slow the spread of COVID-19, especially when social/physical distancing is not possible. As I have previously communicated, we cannot promise to eliminate the possibility that someone will contract COVID-19 while at school, but we need to do what we can to mitigate risk. Mitigating risk is incredibly important to maintaining our in-person learning option.
As a reminder, CDC guidelines state that cloth face coverings should not be placed on:
- Children younger than 2 years old.
- Anyone who has trouble breathing or is unconscious.
- Anyone who is incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the cloth face covering without assistance.
Students identified as a close contact-within 3 feet or less for 15 minutes or more- will be required to quarantine for 10 days from the date of contact. Exceptions include vaccinated individuals or when strict mask adherence by both contacts is in place. If a quarantine staff member has a negative test after day 6, they can return to work with symptom monitoring for the full 10 days.
Parents/families must NOT send children to school if they have a fever or are displaying any related COVID-19 symptoms. Families should make plans for daily morning monitoring. Any students with symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend school.
Parents/families will be notified if their student has symptoms of COVID-19 and needs to be picked up. Parents/families will also be notified if their child was exposed to a student or staff member that tested positive for COVID-19. Guidance from Sawyer County Public Health will be used to determine the next steps regarding quarantine and specific expectations. We encourage you to keep your child(ren’s) contact information up to date with the school district to ensure accuracy for school-related notifications.
The Food Service will continue to follow the recommended guidelines of the USDA, DPI, CDC and our local health department in assuring safety in our schools. Serving up safe and healthy meals to our students will continue to be our priority. Students will wash and/or sanitize their hands before and after lunch.
All classrooms and common spaces have been measured for physical distancing. Classroom desks have been spaced out in accordance with health guidelines to the best extent possible. Classes with a larger student population have been moved to larger spaces to provide a better opportunity for physical distancing.
After School Activities
All After School Activities will take place with social distancing and safety measures implemented to the best of our ability.
Activities and Events may be postponed, or cancelled to meet guidelines and current conditions in the school system and the community.
Health & Safety
People with COVID-19 have a wide range of symptoms reported, ranging from no symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Students will report to the office and may be sent home if they are experiencing ANY of the following symptoms:
**Fever or chills
**New loss of taste or smell
**New or worsening cough
**Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Any student or staff with symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend school and should seek medical attention. Any students or staff members experiencing these symptoms at school should report to their building office immediately. Students and staff experiencing multiple symptoms will be directed to their healthcare provider. The expectation is that each student, family members, and staff will self-screen each morning before attending school. Remember, a student or staff member with symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend school.
